March 10, 2006, Newsletter Issue #82: First Phonics Books

Tip of the Week

Making your own first phonics readers can save money, time and energy. Really! You can quickly staple some card or paper together, write up a little story or simple words and pictures that cover your childīs exact current level of reading. Ideas include the tried and tested "a cat sat on a mat", "a dog sat by a log". Rhyming works well, and keep the number of new words to a minimum with beginners.
