DIY cassettes

Children love to hear themselves. If you have the resources, tape your child singing and playing music (with their permission). This is great to listen to in years to come as well.

Inexpensive Instruments

A box of inexpensive musical instruments will provide hours of fun for any preschooler. Some examples of instruments are:
handmade shakers (beans in a clean plastic jar with the lid glued on)
plastic recorder
"clapping sticks" of dowel or broom handle
bamboo pan pipes
wooden castanets
a triangle
an easy drum made from a sealed container

Try before you buy

If your child wants to learn a musical instrument it may suit to borrow or hire one before you buy them their own. Often children will try a few instruments before they find one they like. Let them experiment, but donīt let it cost you a fortune along the way - there are alternatives.
