January 19, 2007, Newsletter Issue #123: First Discussion of Strangers

Tip of the Week

Your first discussion of "stranger danger" with your toddler can be uncomfortable. You donīt want to cause them fear or undue worry, but it is important that they are safe. I teach my little ones (who are not shy!) that they may not wander onto the street or leave Mummy in a shop as it is not safe. I say there are people who are not kind and kids are better off close to their Mummy than near these people. I think fairy tales have assisted me with visions of witches in Hansel and Gretel and the like. I donīt like to use scare tactics, and this is a very personal issue, but I feel it is important that kids are aware from a young age that there are "strangers" about. Please share your tips on this issue!
